Q: Does the new refrigerant - 410A - make air conditioners run more efficiently?
A: No - the new refrigerant is more environmentally friendly but efficiency is determined by the design of the unit not the type of compressor and coil.
Q: As a homeowner, what maintenance can I do to my air conditioner to prepare for the summer season?
A: Use a garden hose to wash the outside air conditioner unit to get rid of dirt and other debris. It is very important that your furnace filter or air cleaner is free of dust and other debris to maximize air flow. Trim any bushes or other vegetation around the outside air conditioner to provide adequate air flow. Clean the surface of your air conditioner and apply several coats of automotive wax to keep your unit looking like new.
Q: How cool should I set my thermostat?
A: Most people maintain indoor temperature between 74 F - 78 F
Q: What type of electrical fuses should I use for my central air conditioning?
A: Always use time-delay fuses of the proper amperage rating.
Q: I don't want my house too cold in the heat of the summer - What can i do?
A: Central air conditioning removes heat from your indoor air, but also removes humidity. Turn up the temperature on your thermostat - do not turn it off.
Q: How often should I clean or replace my air filter in the furnace?
A: Filters should be replaced every 3 months but may need more frequent attention if the air conditioner is in constant use, is subjected to dusty conditions, or you have fur-bearing pets in the house.
Q: What is a "media air filter"?
A: It is a pleated filter that is normally 16"x25" and 4" - 6" deep. The cartridge needs to be replaced every 10-12 months.
Q: What are VOC's and what causes them?
A: VOC's - VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS - These organic chemicals, often released by heating and cooking appliances, fireplaces, pesticides and household cleaners, are a main cause of indoor air pollutants.
Q: What is "Ductless" air conditioning?
A: Most people heat their homes with a forced air type system. Ductless air is widely used by people with hot water or electric heating.
Q: What makes a ductless air conditioner different than a window air conditioner?
A: A ductless air conditioner consists of two separate components - a small wall hung fan unit inside and a condensing unit outside connected by tubing and electrical wiring.
Q: Is a ductless air conditioner capable of only cooling a single room?
A: Ductless air conditioners are available in different capacities and styles and can cool single rooms or an entire house.
